> Signs and Symptoms
Early signs and symptoms of IPF typically include:
- Chronic cough: usually a dry cough that doesn’t produce phlegm or mucus
- Shortness of breath that occurs while performing physical activities that did not cause shortness of breath before
Late signs and symptoms of IPF may include:
- Shortness of breath and/or cough while at rest that affects eating, talking on the phone, or showering
- Clubbing, an enlargement of the fingertips, occurs in some patients
- Some patients may also experience fluid retention in their legs and arms (peripheral edema)
